About Male Fertility
At least 50% of infertile couples have male fertility problems. Men in infertile couples need to be evaluated for four reasons:
- Male infertility can be associated with undiagnosed medical problems.
- Treatment of male infertility problems is very effective and frequently enables couples to have children by intercourse.
- Male infertility sometimes has a genetic cause. It is important to recognize this before conception to allow for appropriate counseling and treatment.
- Our specialist in male fertility recognizes when a male infertility factor cannot be treated and helps couples navigate the various other options available to them in their ultimate goal of having healthy children.
In keeping with the longstanding history of exceptional care at Minnesota Urology, we are committed to the comprehensive evaluation and treatment of all aspects of male infertility. We will also work closely with your partner’s gynecologist to facilitate a pregnancy.

Your Fertility Evaluation at Minnesota Urology
When you come to see us for a fertility evaluation, you will be asked a number of questions about your medical and reproductive history. We will perform a physical exam to detect abnormalities as well as identify options for treatment. We will then review any workup that you have had prior to your visit and discuss both our recommended evaluation and potential treatment options. Our philosophy is that the ideal consultation helps you decide which of your many options is best for you and your partner.
Treatments that may be offered to improve male fertility in specific situations include:
Microsurgical Vasectomy Reversal
Testicular and Epididymal Sperm Acquisition for in-vitro fertilization
Medical Management: In the correct setting, some medications may improve male fertility. The most common medications used for the purpose are clomiphene citrate and anastrozole. Your urologist will help determine if these are appropriate for you.
