Biography

Dr. Jared Johnson completed his Urology Residency at the University of Minnesota, where he trained in one of the nation’s top programs for reconstructive urologic surgery. His clinical and research interests include holmium laser enucleation of the prostate, surgical technology innovation, and the effects of microplastics on male fertility, erectile dysfunction, and kidney stone formation. During his residency, he and his wife fell in love with life in Minnesota, especially the diversity of seasons and ease of access to nature.

Originally from Colorado Springs, Dr. Johnson was drawn to medicine because of the role healers play in helping those in need. In medical school, he was immediately drawn towards surgical fields due to the immediate results surgeons can achieve. He found his personality meshed well with the Urologists more than with other surgical fields. Urologists tend to retain a light-hearted nature while dealing with sensitive issues, which greatly appealed to me.

While he enjoys surgery, Dr. Johnson’s favorite part of being a physician is the connection he builds with patients in the clinic. He brings a unique perspective to his work, as it was shaped by a four-year gap between college and medical school, during which he worked as a waiter, bike taxi rider, bellhop, and valet.

Outside of work, Dr. Johnson enjoys scuba diving, snowboarding, hiking, and biking with his wife. At home, he spends time gardening, reading science fiction, maintaining their saltwater aquarium, and enjoying his two large dogs.
